Princess Ashley Discusses Sister. Not HER Sister. Just Sister. And I Continue to Loathe Her.

You know what I hate about Ashley Judd today?  The fact that she calls her sister…..”Sister”.  In other words, she doesn’t ever use Wynonna’s name.  Not when she talks ABOUT her, and not when she talks TO her.  When asked some time ago about the whole family’s appearance on the Oprah show, Ashley had this to say:

“Oprah really reached out to Sister not only to help her shed the weight, but also to excavate the deep and profound reasons she has always carried the weight.   Sister told me, ‘I can’t do this second episode without you.’  I said, ‘Of course,’ but I told her it was really against my instincts and nature to be so public in that way….Mom and Sister have such energy pouring off them about each other. I, on the other hand, hold my space very well, and I keep my own counsel.  And that, without a doubt, is what has preserved me.”

Who talks like that??  I mean, I get saying, “MY sister”.  But she doesn’t use the pronoun.  She just CALLS her “Sister”.  With a capital S.  HATE.

I wasn’t aware that “keeping your own counsel” required the help of a team of experts in an inpatient treatment facility, but perhaps that’s just assumed when you’re a celebrity.

I loathe her, too. How she has been hailed as the consummate intellectual, spiritual, humanitarian celebrity is beyond me. My first impression was that Ashley Judd was nothing more than a (moderately) pretty face - a wooden actress riding her more-talented sister’s coattails. And then she opened her mouth - again and again - and proved herself to be insufferable, pretentious, false, passive-aggressive, narcissistic, and pathetic. When she speaks about herself (which is 95% of the time. Really. She is her own favorite topic.) she insists on portraying herself as the ideal woman. Nothing screams, “I’m insecure” more than a desperately-maintained fascade of perfection (not to mention continual one-upmanship). Moreover, Ashley’s descriptions of her many perfections paint an incongruous picture of herself. One moment she is the queen of the intellectual elite (UK is the next Harvard, dontcha’ know), the next she is a barefoot, simple country girl. You can’t be everything to everyone. Can’t. Stand. Her.

Which brings me to the “Sister” bit: I imagine this is a CAREFULLY calculated bit of ol’ Kin-tucky colloquialism on Ashley’s part. Again, she wants to be everything to everyone. It is important that people perceive her as a simple Kentucky girl, one that “hasn’t forgotten her roots.” So she talks about UK basketball on occasion, and peppers her speech with precious little county terms. (My white-trash sister-in-law calls her kids “Sister” and “Brother,” too. Not “your brother,” just “Brother.” It screams “trailer park” to me, not “country.”) It seriously cracks me up - Ashley tries SOOOO hard to sound like an educated intellectual, clearly studies her vocab workbook each night before bed, only to blow it all by channeling Ellie May Clampett. Again - you can’t be all things to all people, Ashley, so quit trying. (It’s curious that she even gives two ****s about her public image, given the general contempt she shows for the public. Then again, that pretty much defines people with narcissistic personality disorder: sensitive to criticism from others, despite the fact they think everyone else is stupid and beneath them.)

Ladies and gentlemen - allow me to introduce you to Shannon, my new best friend. :)
Shannon - clearly you and I were separated at birth. Please continue to comment often. I promise many more I Hate Ashley stories in the future.

I think Ashley seems very nice and caring. She’s one of my favorite actresses.
