Mindy Winkler. For those of you not fortunate enough to live near or around the middle of Indiana, you likely have no idea who she is. She’s that gravel-y, strep throaty, nasally horrific voice that you hear doing traffic reports on various radio stations around these parts. Inexplicably, there is some lasik eye place that has hired her to do radio commercials for them, and so now in addition to traffic, I have to hear these commercials where she loudly warbles at me about how great lasik was for her and how she used to be a Colts Cheerleader.
Did I mention that you can almost NEVER hear Mindy talk on the radio without mentioning that she used to be a Colts Cheerleader?
Anyway, before she or one of her friends decides to go all Alison Becker on me, let me just say for the record that I’m sure Mindy Winkler is a perfectly nice gal. But my GOD – her voice. It’s unbearable. And I cannot understand why people in charge of radio keep allowing her to talk on it. Companies have also hired her to do tv commercials, which is actually a little better because she’s not a bad looking girl and it helps distract you from the voice.
Mindy, as I discovered through her myspace page, leads a singing group called Mindy and The Fun Company. And she is the LEAD VOCALIST. Now, the premise of this group, before you get mad at me for over-criticizing, is kind of adorable. I take no issue with the premise. They take popular songs and change the words into positive messages for kids, and then perform at various school events. Which is all well and good, except that MINDY WINKLER is allowed to sing them.
Take a listen to what they did with YMCA here. And I need to tell you that her voice in this particular song is about 30 times LESS annoying than what it sounds like when she just talks on the radio. So that should give you an idea of how irritating her speaking voice actually is.
You guys – she used to be a Colts Cheerleader. Not sure if you were aware of that.

There is a news reporter in the Dallas/Ft Worth area named Becky Oliver who sounds just like you described. My husband likes to say she gargled with sandpaper and bits of glass. ANNOYING!
I think the worst voice on the TV is the ET anchor that is Simon Cowell’s girlfriend. She is British and sound like she has sandpaper in her throat. She sound like she always has a cold or some sort of respiratory problem. But she is really pretty but when she talks all I can think of is a 65 year old male smoker BBLLLAAAHHH

Her voice makes you want to scratch your eyes out! She was a Colts Cheerleader when they were so terrible that no body went to the games and they were blacked out in the Indianapolis area! But hey, she wore the uniform. I sort of know her, and I have never met anyone more willing to tell you how great they are!
For someone that supposedly knows her, you couldn’t be more wrong. Mindy’s one of the sweetest and most thoughtful people out there who truly goes out of her way to become friends with everyone she meets! I’ve known her for over 25 years and she’s always been sincere and genuine. And as far as her voice, that’s only been recently that she’s sounded a little “gravel-y” and she’s even apologized on the air that it’s because she’s been suffering from allergies. And who hasn’t this year? As far as the Colts cheerleader part, that would be the DJ SMILEY that mentions it all the time. Sounds like “Mockarena” is just jealous.
I never claimed to know her and I also suggested she might be a perfectly nice person. My post had nothing to do with her personality. But if you actually believe that the reason her voice is irritating is just allergy related, you’re either high, or just super used to hearing the SAME VOICE FOR 25 YEARS.
It’s not just Smiley who mentions it. It’s pretty much in every commercial Mindy does as well.
I love it when people default to “you must be jealous” whenever someone they like (or in your case, are clearly related to) is criticized. It’s kind of adorably disconnected from reality.
I also think it’s a little creepy that you obviously googled Mindy to get here. Does she know you stalk her?

THANK YOU… for finally telling it like it is. I HATE Mindy Winklers voice and have ALWAYS wondered why she was allowed to be on the radio. I only know that she was on this site because she mentioned it on the radio this morning that she was hated by some girl who was jealous, so I decided to google it… and this is what I found. Her voice makes me cringe… and I think that Dave Smiley summed it up one day when he said… “You sound like a hot angry cheerleader who is yelling at me when you do the traffic” of course he liked it for some reason but I absolutely can NOT stand it and in fact… when she comes on I switch stations most of the time. When they were promoting her “Fun Company” I also looked up, because I could believe that they would let her sing… it’s a great idea and I totally love the message but HER VOICE… I’m sorry Mindy but you DO NOT have a good radio voice. You sound like a transvestite from Beverly Hills. Please, please please stay off the radio!

I so love that she thinks I’m jealous. That is PRECIOUS.
That makes me want to pat her on the head and tell her everything is going to be ok.
haha… yes they didn’t give the site address and shortly after it was mentioned, Mindy says “okay guys, I don’t want to give this chick any more to talk about” She mentioned that you usually “talk about all these celebrities and then what the heck, a little local traffic girl??” As soon as I got to work and had the chance I googled “I hate Mindy Winkler” and sure enough it lead me to this site! I thought I was the only one who thought her voice incredibly annoying. They also mentioned something about possibly being able to sue because of the photo that you have up of her.
Good to know.
I will replace her photo with one of a cute animal instead. I can’t blame her really – it’s a terrible photo. 
And God bless ‘er – I’m sure she’s an absolutely lovely person. It’s just that I can no longer listen to that radio station because of my bleeding ears. Thank God for XM.

Oh my Gosh!! I was listening to the radio this morning and heard her complain about there was some girl who hates her, blah, blah, blah and has a “I hate Mindy Winkler” website. I thought that I was the only one who couldn’t figure out what the appeal was…oh, other than the fact that she was a Colts cheerleader about 20 years ago…glory days and all…I also do not get the whole concept of continually announcing that she is doing topless traffic and then in the next sentence saying “Oh, and if you want her to come to your kid’s school and sing, here’s the info!!” A middle-aged, topless has-been Colts cheerleader with poor eyesight and a voice that annoys the crap out of you!! “YES!! Please send her to my child’s school!! “What a fabulous role model!!

Mindy Winkler needs to realize that I wrote this original post LAST SUMMER. It’s one freaking post. She’s not important enough to get a whole website dedicated to her. Although, if there IS one out there, I’ll happily visit it.
This is just proof positive that she is completely narcissistic. But if she wants to keep driving traffic here, more power to her.
Check out her facebook, she’s supposed to be encouraging kids to stay away from drugs and alcohol with her fun company(how freaking gay is that), but in just about every picture she’s got booze in her hands! I work in a restaurant/bar on the northside of Indy and she’s in there every week slamming ‘em down, then driving home. I’ve even seen her in there with her kid, then driving home after a few drinks. And for someone that is supposedly married, she’s with a different guy every time I see her and I don’t have many people that are just “friends” that I hang all over and make out with. The voice is super annoying!
OMG! No kidding about her facebook page! She IS ALWAYS DRINKING. I don’t see how she even has time for that poor kid. She is so busy boozing it up, I am sure her husband is sick and tired of being a single parent. She tries to put herself out there as a role model for kids, what a joke! i would be sick if my daughter grew up to be anything like her.
Yeah, she is so annoying. You can tell that she thinks she is soooo hot too. She’s not old by any means, but she needs to act her age.
What the hell is up with this chick? I stopped listening to zpl in the morning because not only was she so incredibly boring but I am so sick of hearing about her new boobs! Someone should have told her to get a new nose instead! I’ve seen better beaks on a buzzard!
I listen to Mindy on the zpl almost every morning!!! I love her voice. It sounds really sexy to me. Very sweet too, Beautiful with a great personality too!!!
Last comment obviously made by someone close to her if not Mindy herself…if you’re reading, take a long look in the mirror sweetie, alcoholics aren’t sexy! The Botox and boobies will only take you so far, the lines on your face, they’re called wrinkles, happens with age, but your drinking and obsessive tanning have made them come a little sooner a little more severe than the average person! Unless you want to look like a worn out saddle by the time you’re 45 I would slow it down. Besides, don’t you ever worry about the impression you’re setting for your little boy, and what about the other kids you’re so busy preaching to in school, you’re kind of a hypocrite don’t you think.
