You know how when you are growing up and you become one of those kids who has to start sitting at the front of the classroom because you squint in order to see the chalkboard, and then the teacher notices and sends you in for an eye screening and it turns out you’re nearsighted and you have to wear glasses and everyone makes fun of you for being a huge nerd?
And then, you know how you continue to wear glasses or contacts into your adult years and your prescription changes from year to year sometimes? And you have to spend all sorts of money on contact solution and new frames?
And you know how it’s really common to be nearsighted when you’re young but then farsighted when you get older?
So my real question is this. If you start out nearsighted, and at some point end up farsighted, shouldn’t there be a time period somewhere there in the middle that you have perfect vision? Do you know what I mean? Like if nearsightedness is -10 and farsightedness is +10, then it seems to me that zero should be considered perfect vision. And on the way from nearsightedness to farsightedness, you ought to get a period of time where you’re zero and perfect.
I am still waiting for this to occur.

I have an answer for that because I asked my eye dr. the same question. He said that while SOME people do get to that ‘perfect’ vision stage, most people require progressive lenses (one for up close and one for far away) until their vision just switches around and they go from wearing glasses for near sightedness to being far-sighted, thus the need for the little tiny librarian glasses used for reading!
Being the only one in the family who doesn’t wear glasses I’ve heard a lot of theories… but from what I see (no pun intended) nobody in my family were ever able to go even a day without glasses / lenses… whatever they have (and if it started with childhood or with age) it all just goes downhill with the passing of time.
I have monovision, which means one eye can see far away and the other eye can see close up. The doctor told me I would be the envy of all my friends around age 50, when they need bifocals and I won’t need anything at all! So WHY do I have a restriction on my driver’s license? GRRRR!
