So apparently people who are just in some huge mad rush to see The Dark Knight are willing to shell out up to $150 a ticket just to get in this weekend. That’s just plain dumb. It’s like people have convinced themselves that if they don’t go see The Dark Knight THIS WEEKEND, the coolness of it will somehow diminish over time.
Don’t get me wrong, I would like to see it, but I can’t think of a single movie I would be willing to pay that kind of money for, KNOWING that within a matter of days, after all the hype dies down, I could see it for $7.50.
I’m really bad at math, but that’s just easy economics right there, people. It’s like the iPhone. When it first came out, impossibly impatient people stood in line for days and spent crazy amounts of money to have it FIRST FIRST FIRST, while their friends stood back and laughed at them and paid like 4 times less than they did just a few short weeks later.
DUMB.

THANK YOU, MOCKERENA! I am so sick of the hype about this film. I doubt I’ll see it (I mean, damn, how many time does Batman NEED to be redone?????), but even if I had been interested, I’d be sick of it already because of all the non-stop chatter. I’m especially annoyed by all the raving and fawning over Heath Ledger’s performance. Would people be so gushy if the guy hadn’t ODed? I think it’s very sad that the man died, but I don’t think it automatically elevated him to Greatest Actor of All Time. He’s playing the Joker, for pity’s sake. A comic book character.
As far as seeing films on THE weekend they come out, I totally hate that. The theatre is always crowded, noisy, and at least three or four morons forget to turn off the cell phones. I want legislation making it legal for a mob to stomp rude cell phone owners to death (or at least to within inches of death) for being too stupid to turn off the #$%@#$@! phone before they go into the theatre.
Whew. I feel better now.

Too many things get hyped up, and you’re right, once the initial excitement dies down, it’s much easier to get your piece of the pie. When ‘Sonic’ burgers opened in our city two years ago, the line was literally, around the block, and stopping traffic. After a couple of months we visited the place and while it was all right, it wasn’t worth all the chaos!
Whenever a film I wanted to see makes people freak out like this only makes me sad… it’s like ER said, when I end up watching it most of the time it really was NOT worth all the chaos. Gotta say I’ll watch this one though (eventually), I’ll let ya know if it was THAT good.
I saw it, and it was really good. Is it the greatest movie of all time? No. Is it worth paying $150 for a ticket? Definitely not. However, I like what they are doing with these newer versions of Batman because I think they appeal to a larger audience since they are not as cartoonish as the older versions. I know they are based on comic books, but I still like the more “grown up” (for lack of a better term) feel of these movies.
As for Heath Ledger, I think he did a wonderful job. If you didn’t know beforehand, you wouldn’t even think it was him in the role. It doesn’t look or sound anything like him. The buzz around this film has intensified since his death, but I remember reading good things about his performance even before he died. I also remember seeing pictures of him in character and thinking “Wow, that Joker looks really badass”.
So I guess all I am trying to say is that is is a good film. Of course everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and that’s mine…for what it’s worth.
I remember reading he’d been really good in it too, before he died. And I’m totally with you, the way they’re doing these last 2 Batmans are WAY better than the cartoony ones from the past.
This is one I’ll wait to see until it comes out on video. Sorry to all you Batman fans.
The new darker Batman versions are much better, definitely not kid stuff. Still I tend to stay away from theaters because they are sticky, uncomfortable, and there are far too many rude people. However, I mostly go when I need a good popcorn fix…
I actually saw this one at the drive-in, which I enjoy a lot more… at least when it’s not really hot outside. Plus, you get to see two movies for $7, and you can’t beat that. Except this time we didn’t stay because the second movie was Journey to the Center of the Earth, and we had no desire to see that one.
where oh where do you find a drive-in anymore????
Most people ask the same question when I say that I’m going. We live in upstate NY (near Poughkeepsie), and we actually have two drive-in theaters. It is a cheap and relaxing way to have some fun in the summer. I love it!
man, i miss drive-ins. I have family that live near your area. Guess its a small world after all.
I completely agree with you…although the movie is freaking sweet. That is all I’m sayin’.
Who cares? Really?
I do! I miss drive-ins too… (haha)
Heath Ledger did an amazing job, and there was only one time that I could tell it was him. He had said, before he passed, that the role was really getting into his psyche, and you can tell from the overall creepiness of the character.
I can’t believe people would wait in huge lines for SONIC, ER! I’m glad you didn’t waste your time. They have been here in TX my whole life, and we eat there about once every 2 or 3 months(mainly for my son). Very blah.
