You Know What Is Totally Irritating Me Today?

I’m annoyed that Bristol Palin and her boyfriend are getting THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS from People magazine for the first pictures of their kid, Tripp.

You guys know I’m a Palin fan, but this is just NOT COOL.  Why should Bristol be rewarded for being a horny and irresponsible teenaged unwed mom?  Do I think it’s great that she kept the baby and that her family is supporting her? Sure.  Do I think the baby is a total blessing and that he’ll have a loving family around him?  Yeah.  But it is NOT great that Bristol’s getting paid a bunch of money for what was, essentially, a really big lapse in judgment on her and her boytoy’s part.

The ONLY thing that will make this ok for me is if Sarah Palin herself reaches out to the media to alert everyone that every last dime of that money is going to some sort of children’s charity.

Hate.

Yeah, they are totally keeping that money. Didn’t he drop out of school to get a job and support his new family? $300,000 goes a long way to ease that pain. Whatever, that family totally annoys me. Them and all their stupid names.

While I do not appreciate the names the Palin family chooses, I must defer from Mock on the specific issue of the $300K. As a mom who adopts, I know that many young mothers choose adoption rather than parenting because of finances. It is my hope that these young parents will put away enough for their oddly-named child’s college education while retaining enough to afford parenting. Two of our three failed adoptions were the result of the birthmothers’ parents finally acquiescing to financially help raise the child so that the birthmother could parent rather than place.
As a former teacher (middle and high school), I’ve witnessed first-hand the trend of teens to parent rather than place. It’s true that the the more educated a birth mother is the more likely she is to place her child with parents rather than parent herself.
I suppose what I walk away from this story regarding the Palins is that they value life and walk the talk.

Just like celebrities’ babies, there is a bounty on the head of that baby. You may as well get a bunch of money seeing as the paparrazi is going to hell and back to get a picture anyhow. At least the kid could be set up. If it were me, I wouldn’t turn down that opportunity.

They’re very young and just starting out. That $300k is a house and college education. Why in the world would they NOT take the money???

They’re very young and just starting out, and getting a house and college education paid for – for doing nothing but being irresponsible brats. That’s what sickens me about the whole thing.

I am with ya here, Mock, except I am not a Palin lover to begin with. Irresponsible teens should not get this kind of money. But if they are, it should be put in a trust fund for poor Tripp.

When I was ‘young and just starting out’, I’d have LOVED $300k. Alas, I did things wrong, apparently. I got married before getting preggers.

    Damn.

Only an extremely stupid person would’ve given me $300K when I was 18. I would’ve blown through that money in DAYS. Baby or no. If they do keep the money, I think Mama Palin needs to step in and secure the money. I’m sure she has no legal power to do that since they’re “adults,” but she needs to pull a good mommy-guilt-trip and make sure it gets done anyway.

I felt the same way about Jamie Lynn Spears getting paid for baby shots. Hey, lets promote teenage pregnancy. That is awesome.

Yeah, you’re probably right, Snarky. What was I thinking? :P

This is a very fine line as far as I’m concerned. On the one hand, I don’t want a baby to be seen as a “punishment” to quote the Great Obama; I think all new life is a blessing and should be seen as such.

On the other hand, I don’t want to glorify an unwed pregnancy. Supporting the unwed parents, yes. However, there’s a point where support turns into implied praise and even glorification of the situation, and I’m definitely not in favor of that.

Yes, I understand that the money could be very useful. I also understand that it glorifies the lifestyle and may even, in the long run, be detrimental to the young parents by allowing them to avoid learning how difficult parenting really is.

I’m really torn on this one, and surprisingly, I don’t have an opinion! (at least not yet) How do you like that!

I’m a first time Grand parent and I was in the delivery room with my (whispered)Unwed daughter when she gave birth. I took pictures of my granddaughter 30 seconds after she was born. Do you guys think I could sell these and set up a trust fund for my granddaughter, 25k maybe 50k. At least my granddaughters other grandparent ISN’T a drug dealer.

Oh yea, Sorry Hatchetwoman, the G word and Obama should never be used in the same sentence.(great)
