Wii Update v.2.0

I thought I’d alert you all about my Wii progress.  The quick summary is this:

I freaking love this thing and have no idea why it took me so long to get one.

So Wii Fit is awesome, now that I’m actually unlocking fun things every time I play with it.  And I even get excited when I get more repetitions of an exercise I hate – that is how much fun I’m having.  But this morning, I decided to try one of the Wii Sport games – Tennis.  You may recall me telling you about Mr. Mock playing tennis, and how he was running, and grunting, and breaking a total sweat.

Before I tell you about my own experience with this particular game, let me explain to you the extent of my knowledge about tennis.  I know that there are rackets, and balls, and that Anna Kournikova’s hotness is not necessarily proportional to her talent at the game.  That’s it.  That’s the sum total of what I know about it.

So I did some tennis training – where you just practice hitting at balls that are thrown at you, and then I practiced target hitting, and then I decided to play an actual game.  And I have to tell you, it is the BEST FUN EVER.  After about 5 games, I had 67 points!  But this was out of a possible 1000, which apparently is how many points you have if you’re super awesome at tennis.  And during the games, there was a voice calling out scores, and I had no idea what the scores meant until the screen flashed that I’d either won or lost the game, but I did think it was awfully nice that the score voice would say “Love” every now and then.  He also said Deuce and Advantage and All a lot – apparently these are all tennisular terms I have yet to figure out.  But you guys, I served and hit balls, and I grunted and everything!

Anyway, I told Mr. Mock that he needed to immediately go out and buy a 2nd remote so we could play against each other.  That, it turned out, was a gross error in judgment on my part, as Mr. Mock is like, ENORMOUSLY better at it than I am, and it destroyed any excitement I had about my 67 points.  So, he let me play alone some more so I could get more practice, and after several more tries I am now up to 298 points.  WHOO HOO!  Someday, I’ll be able to play with him without completely embarrassing myself.

The thing is, it’s completely addicting and utterly exhausting, but I am having a blast doing it, which is the exact opposite of any kind of exercise I’ve ever tried to do before the Wii.  Exercise for me has always been a chore worse than cooking.  And anyone who knows me knows how much I hate cooking.  But now, I’m getting this amazing workout and I don’t feel like it, until waaaay after the fact. LOVE.  My entire body is aching, but I still want to play more.  This has never ever happened to me before ever.

I really think that Nintendo has invented something that could singlehandedly end obesity in this country, if only everyone would just get a Wii.  It’s irresistible.  For this reason, I hope that everyone doesn’t get a Wii, because what would the Mockdock do without landbeasts?  We looooove landbeasts at the Mockdock!

Oooh, I’m so jealous!! I’m trying very hard to talk my husband into buying one, but he keeps spouting off about “paying off credit cards” and how we “need to pay the water bill.” What a downer.

With Wii Fit, there is yoga, all sorts of strength training stuff like lunges and leg lifts and stomach stuff you could definitely do, and you could hula hoop for sure and do the running games. You could also do the step workouts. And the more you do, the more exercises that get added. Tell your husband it’s the best thing ever, and that HE would end up using it too if he got the sport game. I’m sure there’s tons more games I don’t even know about that other Mockdockers could tell you about too!!! :)

Rachel – just tell your husband that you’ll wear more slinky stuff if you get a Wii – and that the more in shape you get the more your sex drive will rise. That oughta do it. :)

I’ve already gotten 1000 on bowling twice before, but I lose it all the time. My score just floats around 1000, usually right under it. :/

Also, just play ON Mr. Mock’s team. This way you both win.

Oh, and Tennis has a MAJOR hardness curve. Like, it’s easy to win, then it’s impossible to win. You start playing emos and oldies and it gets straight tough.

Zachary – how do Mr. Mock and I play on the same team? We tried to figure that out this evening and couldn’t. Where on the menu is this option?

Okay, sorry for the late reply, but you can play as any number of players you want. You see where it has you on one side (as two players) and him on the other? He needs to point at one of you and hit A. It should turn into him.

Then, he needs to “deselect” himself from the other team, simply by clicking on both of the members of the team he was on to begin with.

I hope this made sense. If not, respond again.
