Sooo Attractive.

You know what I don’t get?  Other than the fact that Katherine Heigl chose to dress herself as a leopard-spotted creamsicle?  I don’t get why anyone, in this day and age, STARTS smoking.

I mean, I get why people my parents’ age started smoking.  No one knew any better when they were growing up, and everyone thought it was cool, and so yeah – people picked up the habit.  Those were the days when you could smoke on planes and in restaurants and everything.  But I don’t get why anyone would start NOW.  Everyone knows it’s completely awful for you, the only place you can smoke in public anymore is basically a bar, if it becomes a habit you end up wasting tons of money on it, and it is decidedly uncool.

Mr. Mock and I are practically the only people I know of who have never even TRIED a cigarette.  I’m serious. We have never even had the end of a cigarette touch our lipular areas.  Ever.  We were apparently immune to smoking peer pressure.   And neither of us were particularly dorky growing up or anything.  We just both thought smoking seemed like a really dumb idea.  Clearly, we were destined to end up together.

So – fess up, mockdockers.  Who amongst you smokes, and what got you started?  And is there anything that The Mock Dock can do for you to help you quit?  You know I can post some diseased lung pictures or something.  I’m a giver, you guys.

My grandmother smoked through all five of her pregnancies. Interestingly, it was during her morning sickness on the third pregnancy that her doctor recommended she switch brands of cigarettes–not quit, switch brands. It didn’t cure her morning sickness, but she did like the new brand better.

She quit smoking about 15 years before her Alzheimers struck. When visiting her one day, I found a pack hidden in a covered pan in the pantry, and told my Auntie to fish through the house to find the rest while I distracted Grandma. Sure enough, she’d stashed and forgotten seven opened, unfinished packs. She’s in a home now and can’t get herself to the store to buy more, but she does ask for them regularly. Sigh. Smoking is a tough one to kick.

I smoke. Not awesome, but hey, it’s true. I work a low-paying, high-stress retail job and it makes me relax. No thanks on the lung pics. I am aware of how stupid and dangerous it is. I’m a good person. I have literally helped an old woman across a busy street, and kids like me, but I love me my nicotene. Not gonna lie.

I had my first cigarette when I was ::gasp:: twelve. Yeah, I rolled with a tough crowd. I didn’t smoke regularly, but off on on through my teens. But, I regularly grew tired of it and just stopped.

Now, I generally only get a craving when I’m drunk. And not tipsy, laughing-just-slightly-too-loud – drunk, it’s a keen indicator that someone better get me a cab, unlock my front door, and take my shoes off for me or else I may sleep where ever I’ve fallen down.

I have never, ever, ever tried a cigarette. I’ve never done any drug that wasn’t prescribed to me either. I’m on Percocet as I type this, because I had my wisdom tooth taken out, but I know I could never be the type to get excited over being prescribed a narcotic. I don’t like the grogginess. Drugs and cigarettes have never even interested me or piqued my curiosity. I rarely even drink. Smoking is horrible and smelly.

I, too, smoke. I started to smoke because of stress in college, and I have quit and started again multiple times since then. I will often stop for days or weeks at a time, but as of now I have no desire to really quit. I figure I’ll quit when I have kids a few years from now. Until then, I’m going to keep doing it.

I had to quit 4 years ago and I want one constantly. Once your addicted you never get over the addiction you just get used to living with it. It’s hard to explain to someone that has never smoked, just how strong the desire is.

I’m a moron, er I mean smoker, too. I started in the summer before seventh grade and when my parents found them they believed my “Oh, I was holding them for a friend” bull****. Started to chain smoke in my freshmen year and would spend my lunch money on them. If I would smoke two in a row I would have exorcism type spells where projectile vomiting would occur. My mom just thought I was pregnant. Wish my parents would have done something to stop my dumbass before it became a habit, but back then I doubt anything would have worked, because I. KNEW. EVERYTHING. And as far as the pictures go, I am in nursing school and check out cool exhibits like the body worlds displays in my free time and nothing has worked. Tried Chantix. Hated it because it took the fun out of smoking. So what would the logical person do? Quit smoking. HA. I just quit taking the chantix, problem solved.

Smoking sucks. It stinks(we don’t even smoke in the house- even in the dead of winter) BUT I CAN’T QUIT!!!

I smoke. I started when I was 17. It really is one of those “Everyone was doing it” type of stories that I will not bore you with.

I quit smoking when I found out I was pregnant BOTH times, but started back up shortly after giving birth BOTH times.

I kicked the habit January 2 of last year and was very adamant about NOT smoking and shaming people who smoked. I started smoking 6 months later. I was at work and had a particularly rough day. My coworkers went outside to smoke and it started with a drag. I was buying my own packs less than 3 weeks later.

I agree. I’m not exactly sure why people would start these days. I see tons of college girls smoking on campus and I just don’t understand. Not only is IU a huge campus so you have to walk across it all the time, but you are essentially impairing your ability to do so in the process.

People obviously aren’t quitting anytime soon even though they do know. I’m sure the addiction is tough. I can’t say just quit because I’ve never tried it either. My mother did smoke through all 5 of her pregnancies and she’s been smoking for some 40 years or better. Good thing the only real problem it does is a low birth weight.

I am writing a book here.. umm, I found a link a week ago that let you type in how many packs a day for how long and the price of a pack and it would calculate how much you’ve spent and how much you will spend while smoking. That alone would get me to quit. I like not spending unnecessary money.

Well, I dreamed about smoking since I was a child. Why? I don’t know, maybe mom smoked when she was pregnant (she used to long long ago before I came along.) After being fed up about dreaming about smoking all my life, an opportunity arose and I tried half of it. I didn’t get what made it so special. And thankfully, I stopped dreaming about smoking.

Oh, I did smoke half a cigar on guys night (I was the only girl too-go figure) and gave it away to another guy. I didn’t get that either or particularly enjoy it. I just…was trying it. Never did any drugs though, except what they gave me when they pulled my wisdom teeth out a few years ago.

smokers should be locked up in prisons…
why is it NOT a crime to put your family/friends/neighbor’s health in danger?
well… the government just doesn’t have enough money to build prisons huge enough to lock’em up…
our economy would take a bigger hit since making/selling cig is legal “business”…
i bet you, even some judges smoke…
but instead? the non-smoker gets pwnzed

I started smoking at 9, when my cousin and I saw the “Topel” toothpaste commercial. We wanted to blow smoke through a handkerchief to see if it would leave a stain.

I smoked on and off forever. I smoked regulary in college, quit and smoked a pack and a half a day when going through a divorce.

One day, smoking gave me a headache which almost killed me. I never smoked again. Its been 4 years, and being around cig smokes makes me physically ill. I still have no idea what happened and my docs don’t know either…

It keeps her thin, Mock. That’s why a lot of girls start to smoke. It’s something to do besides eat Twinkies.

My great aunt smoked all through her life, and then when she got wicked emphysema, she continued to smoke while simultaneously on an oxygen machine. I just remember thinking that the whole house was going to blow up on Thanksgiving Day and how much that would suck. Thus, I’ve never really had a need to do it. Thanks, Great Aunt Mari!

Well Daisy, I am a smoker and I am fat-Go figure! Just got my Chantix scrip last week, and my quit date is Feb. 2. A Monday sounds good. Some people try to quit on the weekend, but I do not get that. At work it is easier to stay busy and not think about it. At home, I would end up sleeping all day just to avoid thinking about it! I quit once before for about 8 months. I had a bf that didn’t smoke and he would not kiss me. He also aggrivated me to the point that it was easier to quit than to listen to him!
So, wish me luck! Hopefully I won’t get any fatter-I will be wearing only elastic waist if I do!!!

    GG get a clue.

I started smoking when I was 12 because “it was cool”

I smoked for 14 years, then I quit, I barely even have a craving anymore. Smokers smell soooo bad, it’s nice to actually be able to tell them that too haha.

I’ve thankfully never been a smoker, but have lots of friends who smoke… on occassion, we have people over to our house who are all smokers, and they all go outside at one time to smoke, and it gets lonely in the house, but we’re ok with that because we like to breathe clean air.

Back in college at bars, I would get a little drunk and sometimes think I wanted a cig, so a friend would give me one, I would take one puff off of it, be disgusted, remember why I’m not a smoker, and give it back to them. I do think that unsmoked tobacco smells good, so I often will smell my friends’ unsmoked Camels… but when they are lit, they smell like Camel sh*t. I have smoked a cigar or two (very lady-like of me huh?), but I still don’t get it.

I used to hide my dad’s cigs in the freezer so he wouldn’t smoke, and that would piss him off and probably make him want to smoke even more. Luckily he got on some drug to make him stop.

I smoked my first ciggy when I was like 12 and it made me puke so bad that till this day the smell of a Camel or Camel light will make my stomach flip flop. I smoked off and on for 10 years or so but one day, like h20girl, they just started making me so ill, so I stopped. Now it takes a special time for me to enjoy one, like when im REALLY stressed or when im REALLY drinking a lot. :) the fact of the matter is, they could print a skull and crossbones label on each cigarette and people will STILL smoke them.

I started smoking when I was 24 to get my then husband go leave. He didn’t so I called a lawyer and made him leave.

Smart move.. lawyer….dumb move… ciggarette. I smoked for about 8 years and quit 5 years ago and still crave that damn little demonic device. I don’t give in because of my kids, but every time I see someone just smoking and relaxing I am just filled with jealousy!

How many of you remember some of the cigarette commercials?
Even the Flintstones advertised them. Younger people would never realize how much of an accepted way of life they were.

My first ever reply on here after a year of reading and lmao every day, and of course it has to be on the smoking topic. All I want to say is that smoking does not make a person inherently evil. The addiction of nicotine has been proven to be as bad as the addiction to heroine. I agree that no one should start nowadays, especially with how educated we are now. However, we were not as educated even as recently as 15 years ago. The majority of smokers, a very large majority, would quit if it were that simple, but it is not. Just please don’t automatically assume that someone is a bad person because they made one mistake that is causing them a lifetime of problems. Okay, said my peace, going to hopefully catch up and laugh some more. Thanks for the daily smile Mock.

If you think smoking “keeps you thin”, think of how nice & thin you’ll be once you’re on chemo for the lung/head&neck/bladder/stomach/colon cancer that it causes! Wow! And it looks so freakin glamourous too -suckin away like that. Makes your breath smell nice and nasty like an ashtray….but you all know that already. Better post those lung pics, Mock, they aren’t gettin it!

I smoke and I am 100% aware that it is uncool, but I still like it. I started when I was 16 because I was a stupid ass teenager, who didn’t have anything particularly exciting or ‘cool’ going on in his life.
Now I’m 23 and I can’t quit… I guess I’m not trying hard enough, because maybe I don’t mind it so much after all… who knows?

I’m not a chain-smoker or anything, but I still wanna quit or at least lower the amount of cigarrets per day (I smoke like 5 or 7 more or less).
In my country, nobody makes such a big deal about smoking like they do in the USA (don’t get me wrong, I actually think you guys have the right attitude towards smoking).
What can I say? when I was a kid, my parents and grandparents used to smoke right in front of me all the time and I guess I became addicted as a passive smoker or something.
I’m not saying it’s their fault, but… oh, whatever! it IS their fault!
