SUCH a great day today, you guys. So you know it started out with Junior Mock giving me that tiny smile. Well, as the morning progressed, more and more smiles came, and even some giggles! The oxygen came off, he’s still not getting any morphine, and his fever isn’t worse.
The belly is still an issue, but I think after a 2nd enema tonight, he’s going to feel tons better. The doc came by and took the huge bandage off of his back, and happily, the wound didn’t scare the bejezus out of me as I expected it might. I thought it would look all frankensteiny, but it really is just a long straight line that already looks well healed. The doc said as long as we can get his bowels to cooperate and continue to keep him off of IV meds, he might be able to come home THIS WEDNESDAY OR THURSDAY. Can you even stand it??
But it gets even better. Junior Mock’s bus aide (the balloon guy) and his best friend and caregiver came to visit around lunch time. Shortly before that, the hospital was shooting a commercial with their therapy dogs just outside Junior Mock’s room. I had asked what all the commotion was, and when I found out it was therapy dogs, I asked if they could bring a dog by to see Junior Mock. He is CRAAAAAZY about dogs. The face-lickier the better.
Daisy’s sister then came by, and then another nurse came by to ask if it was ok if racecar driver and Indy 500 winner Dan Wheldon could stop in for a visit. I’m already acquainted with Dan, so I wasn’t quite as star struck as Junior Mock’s best friend and bus aide were, but it was awesome to see him and get some pictures. Junior Mock was pretty zonked, but I think he was still happy to have so many nice visitors. AND, while Dan was still in the room, the therapy dog came! And she was totally face-licky. That got a few more smiles out of Junior Mock before he took a little catnap.

And it gets better! Junior Mock’s best friend and bus aide stayed with Junior Mock while I went to meet Mr. Mock at my parents’ for lunch. And my mom made roast turkey and homemade potato fries and asparagus and cooked carrots and it was all totally yummy. And then Mr. Mock and I got into his happy car and went to the mall and to Tiffany’s where I got a new silver ring that I have been coveting for a couple of years – my Mother’s Day present. And then we drove to Coldstone Creamery and had ice cream outside in the glorious sunshine. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh.

Seriously – how spoiled am I? SO SPOILED.
When I got back to the hospital, Junior Mock’s nurses from school as well as his bus driver came to visit him, and we got Junior Mock into his wheelchair and got him outside for a bit. Now, he’s resting nicely back in his bed.
It’s been the best day ever. Seriously. After a completely lousy week, it was just an utterly perfect, glorious, awesomely fantastical day. Things are looking unmistakably up, and I hope to be back to my full mocking form by the end of this week for sure. Thanks so much for hangin’ in there with me and for the unbelievable amount of support you’ve given us through this ordeal. We’re seeing light at the end of this tunnel!! YAY!
