Birthday Weekend Lowdown

Sorry for all of the non-postiness over the last day and a half, but I have been terribly terribly busy being completely SPOILED ROTTEN by the best husband to ever walk the planet. :)

SO!  We kicked things off yesterday by having dinner at Fleming’s.  Have you guys been to a Fleming’s?  DE-LISH!  What a fantastic piece of meat.  And that’s just Mr. MOCK I’m talking about.  The steak was amazing too.

I kill me.

Anyway, while we were munching on pre-dinner bread, I told Mr. Mock I couldn’t take the suspense one second longer, and I knew he had all kinds of folded up papers with him with all of the information about our trip and it was KILLING me because I’m the most impatient person ever, so finally he handed me a stack of paper he’d printed off, with the top piece of paper displaying this photo:

WE ARE GOING TO LA ISLA MUJERES.

Until last night, I’d never heard of this place, and I STILL can’t pronounce it, but apparently it’s a teeny tiny island off of the coast of Cancun, and you have to take a ferry to get there.  And it’s all cozy and quaint and secluded, and totally NOT resort-y, which is my favorite kind of vacation.  He picked out what appears to be a fantastic hotel – the kind that has jacuzzis on the balconies and giant hammocks.  We’re not locked into the hotel yet - still going to do some research, but we’re definitely going to this island.  I cannot STAND that December is 6 months away, but I have to admit that I kind of love all of the anticipation of the trip, and the planning of the trip, and the getting excited about the trip. LOVE.

After dinner, we went and saw The Hangover, and if you have not seen that movie yet, stop reading this immediately and GO SEE IT.  It’s one of the most hysterically funny movies ever, and even though I already loved Ed Helms from The Office, I love him so much more now.  He’s hilarious in it – all the guys are – and Bradley Cooper is ridiculously dreamy.  Plus, Mr. Mock had Heather Graham to look at so it was equal opportunity eye candy.  I laughed from beginning to end during this movie, you guys.  LOVE.

We slept in this morning, and then got into the happy car to make the trek to the outlet mall (which is about an hour + from our house).  I was armed with a 20% off coupon, and apparently so were about 15 other people, because there were women HOVERING outside the store before it even opened its doors.

Walking into a Coach store, outlet or otherwise, is practically a religious experience for me.  I swear to you that I can hear harps playing when I walk into those stores.  And I always want absolutely everything.  But I was in the market for a laptop bag, and if I HAPPENED to find an oversize purse in a color that was all season, that would be cool too.

So, we’re looking at the laptop bags and the purses, and there are two that are completely CALLING to me, and we look at the prices, and do some quick math, and realize that buying BOTH is cheaper than what Mr. Mock paid for just ONE of my current purses.  So I flashed Mr. Mock my best smile, and he said, “Happy Birthday” and blammo – I became the proud owner of more Coach stuff.

We shopped around the outlet a bit more, and on our way back to the car I said, “Hey – did you happen to notice if Coach carried sunglasses?”  And Mr. Mock said, “Yeah – I saw some.” And I said, “Do you suppose that if we went back in there, and I saw a pair of glasses that I loved, that they would still be 20% off even though I already used the coupon?”  And he said, “Only one way to find out” which is precisely why I love him, and so we went back in and lo and behold – there was a fabulous pair of sunglasses that were SCREAMING, “Mockarena – you simply cannot leave this store without us” and so I flashed Mr. Mock my best smile again, WITH the sunglasses on, and he said, “Those are really cute” and so we got them.  And the best part?  They put them in one of those fabulous Coach sunglasses carriers.  LOVE.

We headed over to Daisy’s house and I got loved on by her giraffes, which I was totally craving, and then we started for home.  The happy car is a targa-top, which is kinda like a half convertible, and because it was a great day out, we had the top down.  About 15 minutes away from Daisy’s house, it started to rain, so we pulled over to put the top back on.  Then it cleared again, and so we pulled over to take it back off, and it stayed dry for most of the trip home.  But then it begain to rain again about 15 minutes away from the house, and this time we decided to just get rained on.  With enough speed, you couldn’t even feel the rain, except at the stoplights.  I thought it was all great fun and was totally giggling the whole way, even though Mr. Mock was getting a little nervous about how much work he’d have to do to dry out the inside of the car when we got home. It started coming down a little bit harder and a little bit faster, and then all of a sudden, a giant SUV drove past us and we saw a TIDAL WAVE coming right at us, being sprayed from a puddle the SUV was driving over.  I shrieked, and started completely cracking up, and we got splattered with all sorts of water.  It was like riding a water ride at King’s Island.  I completely loved it.  I think I did enough giggling about it that Mr. Mock couldn’t even be worried about the clean-up, because it really was fun.

And now we are home, with both Mini Mock and Junior Mock, and the sun is back out, and this perfect weekend is winding down.  And I am just feeling incredibly fortunate and happy and bratty and spoiled all at the same time.  And terribly terribly lucky to be loved by such an incredibly generous and foxy husband.

Life is good.

Nancy – the four I had before today were all patterned. My winter one is sort of that standard Coach beige/brown with dark brown trim. The fall one is a patchwork with lots of browns, golds, burgundies, and beiges. The spring one is a white patchwork that looks almost like a quilt pattern – there are squares of all sorts of fabrics and colors and patterns, and my summer one is pastel stripes.

The one I got today is a large bone/putty-colored tote. I love all of them!!! :D

I covet your putty-colored purse. And the giraffes are having withdrawals. They’re very snuggly giraffes.

I love Cancun and Isla Mujeres! It’s a small island, but it’s very close to Cancun and the snorkeling is really good! It’s also tremendously beautiful, and you’ll be going at a time of year when the humidity will be low. Of course, you won’t spend ALL your time on the island, so be sure to go to Xcaret (It’s pronounced “ESH car et”), which is a park where you can swim along underground waterways, among the tropical fish. It’s fabulous!

You’d be surprised, Hatchetwoman. :) When we go on vacation, all we do is lay around. (Well, we do other stuff too, but you know what I mean.) :) We plan to only leave the island for one day trip to Tulum/Chichzen Itsa. I’m not a Cancun fan – too commercial and too high-risey and too resort-y. :)
