Could the audience’s laughter be more nervous and awkward and uncomfortable? And frankly, it’s kinda gross to me that they APPLAUDED his admission.

I think that the audience considered this as a joke and didn’t think it was a confession. Letterman has always seemed like a creep to me and this just proves it.
Yeah, I don’t get why everyone applauded either. Can’t wait to see all the sexual harrassment suits that are going to be filed. I always found him smarmy to begin with, and this didn’t help.
David Letterman is a jerk??? Wow, I’m shocked….(not).
At least it was consensual. No one was drugged and raped. If I recall he only just recently got married so he may have been single at the time he was seeing other women. If not, his wife will have to deal with it. It’s not like he is the only one who cheated on a wife if he was married when he fooled around.
Also, he was being blackmailed and the only way to stop a blackmailer, (blackmail is illegal) is to announce what the blackmailer is holding against you.
I don’t like Letterman and I don’t watch him.
I will change my opinion if I find out they were drugged and raped.
I never did like him. Too smug.
But, I’m sorry to say, if it was consensual then I feel no sympathy for the staff. My goodness, they knew he had a “significant other” and still porked him.
He’s cold, they’re cold, everybody’s cold, cold……Old McDonald had a farm…eeeye..eyeeay….ohhhh…..Bunch of snakes in a snake pit if you ask me.
I don’t feel sorry for the staff, as I’m assuming these trysts were consensual. I just feel sorry for the woman he married 6 months ago, with whom he’s been in a relationship for 20 years.
He has a 5 year old child with this woman and they have been together over 20 years. If the general public can tell what type of guy Letterman is, then his wife must surely know!

And in any other company in the world he would be fired for this unethical behavior.

Who cares why they slept with him? The sex was likely consensual or we’d have heard otherwise for sure, and who knows what kind of relationship he had with his now wife. Maybe they had an open relationship of sorts and she was doing the same thing. The point is he was being blackmailed. His actvities weren’t illegal. As a civilian, you’re allowed to sleep with people who work for you, and people that work with you. Granted, there are some companies that prohibit it, but really, this stuff didn’t exactly happen yesterday; there’s got to be a statute of limitations in that sort of situation.
I don’t really have an opinion of Letterman, sometimes he’s funny, sometimes he’s not. But kudos to him for not caving to some creep of a blackmailer.
