I had hiccups earlier, which I HATE. When I get them, they just rattle my whole body and they hurt. So Mr. Mock said, “Drink some water,” and I did, and that helped. But Mini-Mock soon developed sympathy hiccups – the kind that only a 4 year old can get, because they are completely made up. He was making the hiccup sound over and over, and dramatically declared to us, “I have hiccups!” And so Mr. Mock said, “Drink some of your juice.”
And you know what Mini-Mock said?
He said, “I can’t, because my hiccups keep hiccing up.”
I think I’m going to like the age of 4 every bit as much as I liked 3.
I love the random things kids say. They speak the truth. The creative mind behind a child is something not to mess with. I cannot wait for my little one to finally speak and lay upon us her wisdom.
Hiccup cure: Put water in a glass (not a plastic cup). Put a long handled spoon or a butter knife in the glass. Touch one end the utensil to your temple as you drink the water from the glass, with the other end still in the water.
My ‘baby’ turns 9 tomorrow. If you enjoyed 3, then 4 will be great. They grow up too fast.
A spoon full of peanut butter cures the hiccups……..and it’s mighty tasty too!
The most surefire way to get rid of hiccups–it sounds insane, but I promise that it works:
Take a glass full of water, and cover the top with a clean napkin or paper towel. Now drink around the brim of the glass, through the napkin, taking a swallow and rotating it. When you get all the way around, your hiccups should be gone.
A spoonful of sugar cures the hiccups, but be aware kids will soon fake them to get it.
Four is an awesome age! They’re still young enough to need you, but their independence is gradually being earned. (That part, the independence, is a bit dreadful for those of us who want our babies to stay babies.) My daughter was four when she discovered that it wasn’t a splashlight, but a flashlight. On the plus-side, that was also when she started writing love notes to her daddy and me, which we still have tucked away. She’s been making up her songs since she could say boppo (bottle), but the songs are funnier than ever now that she’s almost eight.
