They're still young enough to need you, but their independence is gradually being earned. (That part, the independence, is a bit dreadful for those of us who want our babies to stay babies.) My daughter was four when she discovered that it wasn't a splashlight, but a flashlight. On the plus-side, that was also when she started writing love notes to her daddy and me, which we still have tucked away. She's been making up her songs since she could say boppo (bottle), but the songs are funnier than ever now that she's almost eight. Four is an awesome age! Now drink around the brim of the glass, through the napkin, taking a swallow and rotating it. When you get all the way around, your hiccups should be gone.
