Mockdockers, I Present To You, Isla Mujeres

We’re here! And I know I promised you guys that my trip reports were going to be about mockable stuff, and that is still my intent, but frankly we haven’t been here long enough to see mockable stuff.  We’ve only been here long enough to be in total awe of our surroundings.  So you’re just going to have to deal with a little bit of “OMG I cannot believe how awesome it is here” kind of stuff for this post.

Here’s the problem.  For some inexplicable reason, I have all sorts of internet connection, but The Mock Dock doesn’t feel like uploading any of my photos right now.  Hopefully that’s temporary, because tomorrow begins the official hunt for landbeasts and other mockworthy folks.

Anyway, if the photo upload ever starts working, I’m going to show you our room, which features a hammock in the sitting area, and a huuuuuuuge jacuzzi tub in the corner of the gigantic balcony.  This all overlooks the pool, which is actually ON the beach.  It’s a small beach, and it’s sort of in this cove which has giant crashing waves on it.  Not so much a swimming beach as it is a lounging and “wow look at those crashing waves” sort of beach.  It’s beautiful.

We’ve done a whole lot of nothing today – the flights were smooth and easy, we took a ferry to the island and checked into our room by 1.30pm, and we’ve just lounged and eaten a lot and relaxed a bunch.  Tomorrow I’m going to lighten the CRAP out of my hair with sun-in, which will WRECK it, which is why I have a haircut scheduled the day I get home.  But somehow over these few winter months I’ve become a brunette, and I don’t like it.  I’m also kind of irritated because I went to a tanning bed 6 times before coming here, and I’m still pale as a ghost.  I don’t think they’ve probably changed their bulbs in about 3 years.   So it’ll be sunscreen galore tomorrow.

There are beds on the beach a couple of blocks away.  Like FULL BEDS, with canopies, just ON THE BEACH.  And apparently what they are used for is couples massage by day, or by moonlight.  I took a picture (from kinda far away) of a couple having this done. It looked amazing, but it costs a ton, and we can get massages in our room on our balcony for about $40, so we’ll likely skip the bed-on-the-beach version.

We walked around downtown a bit, and found a great place to watch the colts game tomorrow, so that’s our plan after some serious lounging.  Sometime this week we’ll rent a golfcart for the day and tool around the entire island.  I hope that The Mock Dock starts uploading photos soon.  GAWD.

Anyway, thanks for serving as my trip journal while I’m gone.  If everything appears to be up and running tomorrow, I’ll make sure to share pics and hopefully some mocky stories too!

More soon!

We rented a little golf cart to transport ourselves around the
island when we were there. Highly recommended!

I took my mom there in late 2001. We rented a little cart, too, and it was great. The other times I’ve been there, we’ve snorkeled around different parts of the island. Sigh … it’s so beautiful!

I guess about now Mock and Mr. Mock are off the Mexico Mainland having Mangos & Margaritas with a Mariachi band. Either that or she is logging on her laptop & laughing at the land beasts laying out like lumps of lard.
